This Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21-22: Hawaiian Islands Land Trust’s Waihe’e Weekend

Hawaiian Islands Land Trust (HILT) is a nonprofit organization in charge of protecting many different areas on Maui and across the state. They manage refuges which protect native plants, animals and unique geological formations as well as maintaining shoreline access and cultural sites. On Friday, HILT teams up with Kupu Maui for a dinner under the starts at the 277-acre Waihe’e Coastal Dunes & Wetlands Refuge. Kupu Maui’s dinner is being put together with donations from local farms and ranchers and will include: lamb, sea salt, mint, maui sugar, watercress, taro, plain yoghurt (Naked Cow Dairy), Maui Gold pineapple, and hawaiian chocolate. $65 (reservations required). 5pm-8:30pm. Then on Saturday, Sept. 22, HILT will hold their annual picnic, which will also be a retirement party for executive director Dale B. Bonar. There will be guided walks, activities for children, free food and time for talking story. Those planning on attending should RSVP by calling 808-244-5263. Free. 10am-2pm.
