This Friday & Saturday, May 10 & 11: Maui Matsuri at UH Maui College

The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui is holding its 13th annual Maui Matsuri. The family-friendly festival attracts thousands from the community and is filled with cultural demonstrations, entertainment and film. Friday, May 10 (6:30pm-9pm) will consist of the movies Life on Four Strings and Light Up Nippon, which will play at the UH Maui College-Pilina Building Student Lounge. Saturday, May 11 (2pm-9pm) will offer an afternoon of food booths, a saimin eating contest, costume cosplay, traditional martial arts and more. The Kodomo “child” Corner will be filled with origami and fish printing crafts. The evening will include a community Obon dance (7:30pm), and attendees are encouraged to dress in traditional attire.
