As a derivative to Whale Week, Whale Trust Maui presents Whale Tales, Feb. 16-18. This year will feature Paia-based designer Chelsea Kohl. Chelsea’s process includes taking photographs of actual whale flukes (shot by the Whale Trust researchers) and color-saturating them with stunning results. Her design have been reviewed by Billabong, Quiksilver, etc.
Guests can purchase printed hoodies, scarves and event T-shirts featuring this art. Plus, Chelsea’s dad Bill–who has given Mama’s Fish House its distinctive look for the past 35 years–is designing a custom frame for a canvas art piece of the whale tails that will be on display during the event.
