Usually, the saying “the best things in life are free” strikes me as ridiculous. Kona Mud Pie is not free. Alaskan cruises are not free. Music festivals are not… wait, the Lanai Slack Key Guitar Festival is free! Hop on the ferry for a three-day music and cultural fest on Lanai this weekend. Festivities include performances by Grammy- and Na Hoku Hanohano-winning artists, a Stand Up Paddle workshop with Ekolu Kalama and a CD release party of the fest’s performances. The fest will feature musicians Benny Uyetake, Kevin Brown, Brother Noland, Dennis Kamakahi, John Keawe, Kawika Kahiapo, Ernest Puaa and more. See below for the full schedule. Free. Aug. 17-19. Lanai; 808-565-4000; lanaislackkeyfestival.com.
