Dude, hang in there. Daylight Savings is on Nov. 6. You know what that means: Hawaii’s 7am Sunday kickoff time will spring forward to the slightly less-ungodly hour of 8am; never mind we won’t have to wait an hour for beer/Bloody Mary service. Until then, revel in the sane hours of Monday Night (that is, um, afternoon) Football. If you couldn’t afford the NFL Sunday Ticket (who can?), no worries beef curries. Football-friendly watering holes abound, including Green Leaf Sports Bar & Grill (1088 L. Main St., Wailuku), Kahului Ale House (355 E. Kamehameha Ave., Kahului), Oceans Bar & Grill (1819 S. “It’s like turning on the radio and hearing a litany of your favorite songs—it just makes you feel good,” writes MauiTime’s Ynez Tongson, of the band Bad Kitty. Comprised of Marciline “Marci” Olson, Joette Burke, Mike Burke (drums), Barney Cortinez (bass) and Herb Andrews (guitar), they’re a talented troupe who aim to have fun with their sound and get the crowd moving. The night Tongson reviewed the band at Eha’s Pool Bar, it was “a rainy Friday night, and Wailuku is awash with streetlights and the shiny sleekness of wet pavement… The air inside Eha’s hot, sticky and almost electric with the buzz of excited bar-goers.” Bad Kitty were regular players at that Wailuku hub, and we join them in mourning recently have lost it to loser landlords and the LC…. But Bad Kitty gigs on (they’re all professionals, “members hail[ing] from a variety of established local bands like Jimmy Mac and the Kool Kats, Country Knight and Gomega”), and can next be seen at the Kahului Ale House this coming Tuesday. Sadly, Jacques is gone. And, “Jacques owned Friday nights on the North Shore,” says Steven Cappelli, owner of Casanova in Makawao. Fear not. The man who brought the beats to the night’s famed “Fusion”—DJ Del Sol—has found a new Friday home, further up the mount hailed the House of the Sun. You guessed it. Aiming to return to its Country peeps the revelry of “mingl(ing) with the young and beautiful,” and dancing to Del Sol’s sound, is Casanova. “After all,” continues Cappelli, “Friday night is a very special night for everybody.” (free for diners / $5 before 11pm / $10 after)

Speaking of a special Friday night, those West bound won’t want to miss “Final Fridays Art Night” on Front Street. It’s coordinator extraordinaire Matt Lane’s last run at running the show, so while (also) sad, it’s going to be a great one. Gaze and graze from gallery to gallery as you nibble and sip on sweets, food and wine, provided the area’s finest eateries. It is, well, art night in the “Art Capital of the Pacific,” so there’s tons of live art—all melodically accented by strolling street musicians (this month’s musical inclusions feature some talented ukulele-playing Lunas and pickers from Maui Prep). Plus, special performances at Sir Wilfred’s, and face painting provided by the Lahaina Art Society (6 – 10pm, free).

As for those sticking Central or South, the Kahului Ale House hosts local band Open Mynd (6  - 9pm, free) after which DJs will blast you back to 80’s with “Flashback Fridays” (9pm, $10). And, at Ambrosia, every Friday is Fris Friday with Forrest, who spins until the go-home lights kick in.

Turns out, Mulligan’s on the Blue (874-1131) is as trapped in October as I am. For their New Year’s party, they’re featuring their All Hallows Eve music line-up (Kulture Klash 808, Fish Tank and Off Tomorrow) and they’re hosting a costume party. There’ll be $500 in prizes (put those creative juices to work, they’re seeking creatively themed threads), and whether you opt for the dinner package with complimentary champagne toast ($60, call for reservations) or for the gigs alone ($10 advance/$15 door), you score a killer view of the Wailea aerials.

On the topic of tenuous timelines, you know who else had their calendars all screwy? Everyone, from 47 BC until 1582. It wasn’t until the end of the 16th century—and the centuries following Pope Gregory XIII’s reformation of the Julian calendar—that many world countries adopted the Gregorian version and began to embrace January 1 as the day that “we’ll take a right guid-willie waught, for auld lang syne.” Uh, OK. Whatever that means. Oh c’mon. Nobody really knows the lyrics to that song we pretend to sing but once a year.

Besides, you ought to be too busy smooching (COSMOS says “kissing is good for the species) … or drinking… or at the very least, blowing those annoying paper noisemakers that fall limp with too much drunken spit. If you want some Willie songs (of the “Georgia On My Mind” variety) that you can really sing along to, I’ll remind you of last week’s Pick to check out Charley’s ($75, 579-8085).

Also last week, I encouraged every Bad Santa to head over to Casanova (572-0220) for the Kit Kat Club’s Christmas Cabaret. Whether avoiding Claus’s naughty list or your girlfriend’s s#%t list, I’m guessing a few of you might have stayed home. But New Year’s is a holiday of second chances, and the Kit Cat Club cuties are giving you just that with their New Year’s Eve Party—replete with bubbly and a soiree of DJs, gogo dancers and sideshow acts hot enough to light fireworks.

What else should be hot? Your fingers—lighting up the phone to call Timba ($25, 661-9873) and secure your New Year’s Eve reservations. The Hard Rock Café (667-7400) will feature DJ Chuck for just $7—with a portion of the proceeds going to World Hunger—and they too boast a gratis toast. And if you need as many options as Tiger’s got mistresses (talk about a roundup), Next Level takes over the Kahului Ale House while All Access Entertainment is busy putting on the party at Diamonds Ice Bar (874-9299), Oceans Bar & Grill (891-2414), and Lulu’s Lahaina (661-0808).

8am (8.6mile race) Start

This year’s Turkey Trot for Fun was another repeat success, as runners from around the island  and world challenged themselves to accurately guess their race times.  113 registered runners sprinted off the starting line early Thanksgiving morning, and over $1000 was raised to benefit Maui’s Food Bank.  In addition to entry fees, 254lbs of canned goods was collected for the Foodbank.  Race organizer Cathy Fitzpatrick (Valley Isle Road Runners) was overjoyed at response from race participants and funds raised for Maui’s Foodbank.

If your interested in getting more involved with Valley Isle Road Runners, be advised that VIRR’s executive board elections will take place on 12/12/2009 after the annual “Christmas 5k & 10K Race”
