Whale of a Day: Pacific Whale Foundation Festival

It isn’t just our human mainland relatives who flee icy winters to enjoy the Hawaii winter warmth, but also our whale cousins.  This annual visit inspires Whale Day, voted “Best Community Festival” by the MauiTime Reader’s Poll.  Whale day, at Kalama Park on S. Kihei Road, starts at 9 AM on Saturday, February 20th, and the festivities continue into the sunset.  
Popular Hawaiian musicians set the mood, featuring Marty Dread, Cecilio, Kapono, Na Leo Pilimehana, Anuhea, George Kahumoku Jr., and John Cruz.  What else do we make in Hawaii besides …

Dear Ridiculously Energetic/Active People of All Ages,

Saturday, February 6th, The Pacific Whale Foundation is holding Maui’s 2010 Run For the Whales at Maalaea.  The Run will start at the Makena Beach & Golf Restort, and continue throughMakena and Wailea.  “It’s a benefit for the marine education programs that Pacific Whale Foundation offers for Maui schoolchildren.” There are a few different events that will be hosted:
Half Marathon: Begins at 6:30 AM (be there a half-hour before hand.) Electronically Timed (ankle bracelet timing chips). $38 registration fee on or before February 5. …

Turkey Trot for Fun 2009

This year’s Turkey Trot for Fun was another repeat success, as runners from around the island  and world challenged themselves to accurately guess their race times.  113 registered runners sprinted off the starting line early Thanksgiving morning, and over $1000 was raised to benefit Maui’s Food Bank.  In addition to entry fees, 254lbs of canned goods was collected for the Foodbank.  Race organizer Cathy Fitzpatrick (Valley Isle Road Runners) was overjoyed at response from race participants and funds raised for Maui’s Foodbank.
